Ngan helps earn point in opener
Justin Ngan of Wailuku was part of a victorious pairing as competition between Hawaii and Japan in the Asia Pacific Junior Cup began Sunday at the Waikoloa Beach Resort Kings’ Course on the Big Island.
The teams were tied 4-4 after fourball competition on the first day of the three-day event.
In the opening match, Ngan and P.J. Samiere of Kailua, Oahu, defeated Futoshi Tokutake and Ryu-saku Iwabuchi 1 up by winning the final hole.
Ariel Elftman-Hanson of Wai-luku and Kristen Le of Honolulu halved their match with Kanna Ito and Yuki Yoshida.
Haruhi Nakao and Yuki Shino of Japan took the final two holes of their match with Kimberlie Miya-moto of Kahului and John Oda of Honolulu for a 1-up win. Wailuku’s Tyler Munetake and Honolulu’s Keilyn Ing lost 2 and 1 to Nozawa Mao and Daichi Higashi. The Japanese team trailed at the turn, but won four of the final eight holes.
