Victorino placed on disabled list
Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday because of a recurring back injury.
The St. Anthony High School alumnus has been on the DL three times this season.
The move is retroactive to Thursday and Victorino underwent an MRI on Friday.
Against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, he left in the fifth inning for what manager John Farrell called precautionary reasons at the time.
“Still some low-back tightness the other night,” Farrell was quoted as saying on masslive.com. “Pending the results of the MRI it will give us some definitive course of action going forward.”
Victorino’s first two stints on the disabled list were for a right hamstring strain. He went 11-for-32 in nine games since returning from the second stint July 19.
